Aufgewachsen in Tel Aviv-Jaffa begann sie im Alter von 17 Jahren ihre Bühnenkarriere. Bald darauf spielte sie im Cameri, dem bekanntesten Theater der Stadt. Privat war Avital drei Jahre (1998–2001) mit Schauspieler David Schwimmer liiert, ehe sie am 4. Juli 2004 den Drehbuchautor und Philosophie-Professor Charles Randolph heiratete. Mit ihm lebt sie sowohl in New York als auch Los Angeles.
