Else Jarlbak var datter af journalist Albert Jarlbak. Hun var operetteskuespillerinde ved Det ny Teater 1929-1937 og optrådte derefter på Operaen i Leipzig i Tyskland indtil 1939. Hun debuterede i "Når violen blomstrer" i 1934 og optrådte siden på københavnske scener samt på turneer i provinsen. Som skuespillerinde var hun ikke i frontlinien, men i 1950erne var hun fast engageret til Cirkus Ib på Dyrehavsbakken, hvor hun hjalp Ib Schønberg med alt det praktiske i hans sidste leveår. Bl.a. medvirkede hun i Cirkusrevyen i 1951, hvor hun sang "Hjerterne mødes". Fra 1959 til sin død var hun biografinspektør ved Nygade-Teatret hos Bodil Ipsen.
